Box
Tops for Education
Hello Everyone,
We are coming to the end of our Spring Box Tops Contest. This doesn't mean that once you hand them in you
should stop collecting. Make sure you keep cutting those box tops over the summer and look for specials in your grocery store.
Some of you might even ask neighbors who don't have kids in school. I have even heard of Grandparents who cut box tops
and mail them. Get creative and remember it is free money for our school.
Please send in your Box Tops and Cambells labels (this includes Pepperidge Farms) by Monday, May 14th our
contest deadline. Make sure you label the bag with your Teachers name. The Box Tops will be counted up by classroom and the
class from each grade with the most box tops will win a popsicle party scheduled for after the EOG's.
Thank you for all your help in raising money for our school.
Sincerely, The Box Tops Team

YMES Blackboards Grade-level Blackboard sites are up and running. Your child's teachers keep it updated with weekly updates
and links to educational Web sites.
Required Registration
of All Volunteers Do you plan to help at YMES in any capacity this year (including
attending classroom celebrations/classroom activities/field trips/Fun Run/Book Fair/etc)? It is mandated by the
Wake County Public School System that all school volunteers be registered in their system each school year. You can register
ONLY on a school-based computer on MONDAYS 8:00 am - 4 pm. See Volunteer Registration for details.
Study Island is Always Available Don't
forget about Study Island! Study Island (www.studyisland.com) is available to current YMES students (over the summer rising 1st through 5th graders). Your
child should know their login information. If you they do not remember, you can call the school's front office.
Web Tip from YMES: Safe Web Surfing Many students
and parents are looking for Web sites that are not only safe but also provide learning opportunities. There are several kid-safe
search sites, such as: www.sldirectory.com/searchf/kidsafe.html, www.surfnetkids.com, and www.suite101.com/welcome.cfm/kids. Parents
Policy at Lunch (updated policy 2010-2011 school year) Parents have always been encouraged to come to school
to eat with their children. This typically involves you sitting at a guest table in the cafe and the child inviting one or
two classmates to join you. There is a new policy on eating outside at the picnic area. If you choose to eat outside, you
can sit at the picnic tables next to the gym (cannot eat on Butterfly Hill) and you can only take your OWN child without friends
joining you. It is too hard for the assistants to try to monitor the other children outside. Thank you for understanding this
new policy.
How Will You Be Involved This
Year? You are invited to volunteer for the PTA ANY TIME DURING THE
SCHOOL YEAR. Lend a hand by giving just a few hours of your time to help plan and
run any of our activities and fundraisers. We have tasks for everyone---moms, dads, kids, teachers, relatives, and family
friends---at various levels of participation. The strength of our PTA lies in the number of volunteers. If your schedule allows
for more time, join a committee or work in the classroom. Giving of your time, talent, and ability not only helps the school,
it also enriches our children's education.
The PTA holds open meetings every month. Look for the dates and times of upcoming events and meetings in the PTA Newsletter
your child will bring home bi-weekly, and on this Web site.
