updated frequently with timely information. If you have a PTA-related item to add, please e-mail Melinda at mallens@mindspring.com.)
How Will You Be Involved this Year?
You are invited to volunteer for the PTA ANY TIME DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. Lend a hand by giving just a few hours of your time to help plan and run any of our activities and
fundraisers. We have tasks for everyone---moms, dads, kids, teachers, relatives, and family friends---at various levels of
participation. The strength of our PTA lies in the number of volunteers. If your schedule allows for more time, join a committee
or work in the classroom. Giving of your time, talent, and ability not only helps the school, it also enriches our children's
education.
The PTA holds open meetings
every month. Look for the dates and times of upcoming events and meetings in the PTA Newsletter your child will bring
home bi-weekly, and on this Web site.

2010-2011 PTA Board Members -- Committees
Have Been Updated
President--Sherry Skinner
VP--Amy Leonard
VP--Gwen Smith
VP--Liz Starling
Treasurer--Sara Martensen
Secretary--Greta Hickman
The new board is currently planning committees for this
year. They are recruiting volunteers to chair committees. Please take a look at the committee list at YMES. There might be something you'd like to do! Recruit a friend to volunteer with you -- double the fun!!
Volunteer Registration
To volunteer at school,
you must first register and receive clearance by the Wake County school system. (Clearance generally takes a couple of
days.)
Even if you are a familiar face in Yates Mill hallways
from volunteering in years past -- you must re-register before you can volunteer in any capacity (including
clerical work) this year at YMES. A volunteer registration station will be set up during Meet the Teacher on
August 23 or you can go to the school to register before the 23rd. You can register any time during the school year, but keep
in mind that clearance will take a couple of days -- don't wait until your teacher needs classroom assistance, a field
trip is coming up, or other event to register!
See the Volunteer page for registration details.
Painless Fundraisers
Don't forget to collect Box Tops for Education, and Tyson Foods Project
A+ labels, and Campbell's Labels. Each coupon is worth 10 cents for our school--it really adds up and makes a difference!
For participating Box Tops products, see www.boxtops4education.com/earn/clip/Brands.aspx.
For participating products with Campbell's Labels for Education
(please keep in mind that we only need the UPC code from participating products, not the entire label), visit www.labelsforeducation.com/participating-products.aspx.
Collect a pile of box tops and labels and send them in
with your child. Your teacher will get them to the correct place.
If you haven't already, also re-link your Harris
Teeter, Target, and Food Lion cards to Yates Mill (you can do it at the register during checkout or on their Web sites). Remember,
you have to RE-LINK your cards every school year! See PTA Projects for details.
Study Island
Don't forget about Study Island! Study Island (www.studyisland.com) is available once again for K-5th graders. If you don't know your student's log in information, you can get it from
your child's teacher.
Web Tip from YMES: Safe Web Surfing
Many
students and parents are looking for Web sites that are not only safe but also provide learning opportunities. There are several
kid-safe search sites, such as: www.sldirectory.com/searchf/kidsafe.html, www.surfnetkids.com, and www.suite101.com/welcome.cfm/kids.
