Volunteer Opportunities

Have you wanted to volunteer all year, but just not worked out the right time? Signed up to volunteer, but no one ever called you to give you details of when to show up? Volunteers have a way of slipping through the cracks, but we really want to help you donate your time, and find a good match for your talents and interest. There are needs every single day at our school and for every volunteer who walks through our front door, your child benefits in some way. Even if you work full-time and can’t get into school during school hours, there are many, many things you can do! If you are interested, but worried about over-committing but would like to find something that fits your schedule, please contact one of the Board of Directors.

This section of the Web site will list specific and immediate needs as they arise. Please check back here often!

Committee Chairs and Committee Volunteers Needed for 09-10
Want to volunteer but not sure what's available to do? Check out the Program Descriptions
file listed at the end of this page. It describes the programs and activities needing a Chair Person and other volunteers to lead it.

Make it even more fun! Ask a friend to volunteer with you!!!

If you are interested in serving as a Committee Chair or have any questions, please contact Chris Post, PTA President, at chrispost9@yahoo.com and he will put you in touch with the right people. The PTA at Yates Mill is a big part of the our children’s education and it is crucial we fill these positions to continue the programs and events the PTA provides. Please consider it!

Volunteer Registration Information

Everyone is encouraged to volunteer at Yates Mill; not just parents. Other family members and close family friends are welcome.

To volunteer, you must first register with the Wake County School System volunteer data bank. Registration must be done at a designated computer at Yates Mill. Registration from other computers is not possible for security reasons.

During registration, you will be asked to provide information and to select the types of volunteer activities in which you are interested. There are four volunteer levels. Those volunteering for Level 1 and 2 activities will be asked their name, address, phone number and e-mail address. The computer screen provides a checklist of Level 1 and 2 volunteer activities. Examples of Level 1 and 2 activities would be to help out in class, help with the Fun Run and Field Day, go on field trips, be the Room Parent, etc. This is the level 99% of volunteers register for.

Persons volunteering for Level 3 and 4 activities will be asked to provide their name, address, phone number, e-mail address, as well as birth date, driver's license number, social security number and addresses for residences during the last seven years. The screen provides a checklist of Level 3 and 4 volunteer activities. Level 3 and 4 activities typically involve unsupervised one-on-one contact with students either on or off campus. You do not have to register for this level unless specifically asked to do so.

Visit www.wcpss.net/volunteer/getting_started.html for details.
