Welcome Message from the PTA President

August 2009
On behalf of the PTA, let me welcome you to Yates Mill. My name is Chris Post and I will be serving you as the PTA President for the upcoming schoolo year. I look forward to getting to know you and your family, and working together to enrich your child's education.

Wonderful things happen at Yates Mill Elementary School each and every day because of the outstanding teachers, administrators, and staff that are so dedicated to the education of our children. One of the main goals of the PTA is to encourage and provide as much communication as possible between home and school. Many of the opportunities our children have to learn and developn are made possible thorugh the programs sponsored and funded by the PTA. This is a very exciting time in your child's life, filled with new friends, new experiences, and new challenges. Staying involved and informed is the best way to help your child have a successful year.

We also invite you to volunteer for the PTA. Our volunteer fair will be held in conjuction with Open House in September. Lend a hand by giving just a few hours of your time to help plan and run any of our activities and fundraisers. We have tasks for everyone---moms, dads, kids, teachers, relatives, and family friends---at various levels of participation. The strength of our PTA lies in the number of volunteers. If your schedule allows for more time, join a committee or work in the classroom. Giving of your time, talent, and ability not only helps the school; it also enriches our children's education.

The PTA holds open meetings every month. Look for the dates and times of upcoming events and meetings in the PTA Newsletter your child will bring home bi-weekly, and on this Web site. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to e-mail me at chrispost9@yahoo.com or drop a note in the office at the school. Your opinion matters! We look forward to hearing from you!

How to Join

We have a PTA membership drive at the beginning of each school year. But it's never too late to join! Send a note to your child's teacher and she can get you the membership form.

Don't worry, just because you join the PTA doesn't mean you have to spend your days and nights working on projects. Sign up for as little or as much as you want to -- find the one or two things you'll love to do! It'll be fun!!

Programs & Events

Yates Mill is full of enriching, fun, and educational activities that complement your child's curriculum and helps bring a sense of community to the school.

See Programs & Events Descriptions for details. You'll also find an array of volunteer opportunities. Also see Volunteers for immediate opportunities. The board members and committee chairs are ready and willing to answer your questions. Feel free to contact anyone listed. We look forward to your involvement!

Fundraisers

There are several fundraising opportunities available at Yates Mill. There are easy-to-participate fundraisers you can do at home.

We like to call these easy-to-do fundraisers the “Painless Fundraisers.” It's so easy to raise money for your child's school with the following opportunities. Get started today!

Campbell's Labels for Education -- Re-instated Program in 2010
Yates Mill is once again collecting Campbell's Labels for Education. For a full list of participating products, visit www.labelsforeducation.com/participating-products.aspx.  Please note that we only need the UPC code from participating products and not the entire label. Please turn in all Campbell's Labels for Education to the front office, or you can send them in with your child and the teacher will get them to the correct place.

Box Tops for Education
We are collecting Box Tops for Education labels from participating products. Please turn in all Box Tops to the front office, or you can send them in with your child and the teacher will get them to the correct place.

Target
Enroll your Target credit card for their Take Charge of Education program. You can do this at Target's Web site or at their Customer Service desk. Please take a moment to enroll your Target card today!

Harris Teeter Together in Education
Register our VIC card online at www.harristeeter.com or visit the customer service desk and state the Yates Mill code 4263. You only need to do this once for the school year; however, you must relink your card at the begining of every school year. When you purchase select Harris Teeter Brand products using your registered VIC card, Harris Teeter contributes a percentage to Yates Mill Elementary.

Food Lion Shop and Share Program
Register Yates Mill Elementary with your MVP card online at www.foodlion.com or call 1-800-210-9569. Provide all the numbers from the bar code on the back of the card, including the smaller ones at the beginning and end. You must relink your card every year. When you purchase products at Food Lion using your registered MVP card, Food Lion contributes a percentage to Yates Mill Elementary.

Your Online Shopping Can Benefit YMES -- New in 2009
Yates Mill now has an account through the NCPTA Furtal program.
This is similar to Upromise or BabyMint where you go through their
Web site to shop at different stores and a percent of the money goes to
our PTA.  So when you log on to shop, first go to www.furtal.com/school/Yates-Mill-Elementary. This is such an easy way to help fund activities at your child's school!
